This year Weltevrede had the privilege to take part in the Nederburg Auction on the 16th and 17th of September. We auctioned off four cases of our 1986 Oupa se Wingerd, divided up into three available lots.
We are very happy to say that the first lot, containing 12 bottles, sold for a staggering R8400. The other two lots, each containing 6 bottles, sold separately for R4500 each.
Our 1986 Oupa se Wingerd is the first vineyard-specific wine in South Africa made from red Muscadel vines. An exceptional vintage recognised by the Young Wine Show as a national champion Muscadel.
Matured in the constant cool temperature of the underground cellar it still displays the vibrant grape-like Muscat fragrances after 30 years. Its brick red colour and lingering finish is bound to tempt any wine collector.
The International Stage
The Nederburg Auction had a very successful event year, with more wine sold at a higher average price per litre. The auction hosted a bigger international complement this year. This confirms that good quality South African wines are being recognised by international buyers. It is considered as world-class wines, competing with the best of the best.
We were honoured to be a part of this prestigious event and most of all, to contribute in shaping the image of South African wines and the quality they have to offer.
